The coolest celebrities (to us, anyway) have a signature style, but aren’t afraid to try something new from time to time. Take Lana Del Rey, for example. We know she loves a pretty sundress and wearing her hair long and loose, but she recently transformed with a preppy all-Chanel look and classic updo that was giving Ladies who Lunch, in the best way.
On June 13, the singer’s glam team posted a close-up of Rey’s look that she wore to receive her Song Writer Icon Award at the National Music Publishers’ Association Annual Meeting in New York. It was as though her inspiration came from the hit series FEUD: Capote versus Swans—her French twist and tweed two-piece set felt classic and elegant, while also being soemthing refreshingly new for the star.

For her makeup, Del Rey worked with her longtime collaborator and makeup artist, Etienne Ortega, who used his Ortega product line on the star to craft her soft-glam look. He highlighted her complexion using Ortega’s Ethereal Glow Balm in the shades Ice Queen and Golden Hour. She wore wispy lashes and her signature winged liner. The rest of her beauty was simple, and her monochrome brown lipgloss added the perfect subtle touch of color to her otherwise all-black outfit. To create the look, he used the Ortega Lip Liner in Xola, a deep brown, paired with the Liquid Icon Gloss in Por Vida, a clear shade.
Hairstylist Anna Cofone crafted Del Rey’s hair in a pretty prom updo (which is so popular right now among celebrities—Bella Hadid wore one at Cannes and Chloe Bailey styled one on Instagram). Cofone left a strand of hair parted to one side which gave the polished updo a fun feel. She tied the rest of Lana’s hair into a voluminous twist.

Styled by Molly Dickinson, Del Rey wore a sweet mini Chanel skirt-suit that featured the brand’s iconic tweed. She wore a sheer top underneath and paired it with black pumps and dangly earrings. Combined with the bouffant and makeup, the 38-year-old looked straight out of an Old Hollywood movie.
So far, Lana's Chanel era is as bright as ever, and we'll be taking inspo from her prim updo all summer long.
